Celebrating Marie Doro

May 27, 2023: Special Event Celebrating Marie Doro.

Marie Doro (born Marie Katherine Stewart on May 25th, 1882) was a native of Duncannon PA. She was a famous stage and silent film actress rivaling Mary Pickford. When she was on stage in England a young Charlie Chaplin had an unrequited crush on her! She was invited to perform at Windsor Palace on February 2, 1914, making her the first American actress to receive the honor of a royal invitation!

She went on to make 18 films between 1915 and 1922 and was featured on the cover of magazines and in advertising. She died at age 74 on October 9th, 1956. She was buried in her hometown of Duncannon PA.
